LEONARDO DA VINCI E LE BALZE

Molti esperti ritengono che le forme delle Balze del Valdarno siano rappresentate nei dipinti di Leonardo (ad esempio la Gioconda o la Madonna delle Rocce). In effetti, Leonardo ha davvero conosciuto questa terra ("…la quale si vede ancora à piedi di Pratomagno restare altissima”) e ne ha spiegato l’origine geologica in modo chiaro. Per di più, alcuni paesaggi dei suoi sfondi corrispondono sufficientemente bene alle forme delle Balze; e così è anche per altri maestri del rinascimento, come Masaccio e Beato Angelico.

Many expert retain that tha shapes and forms of the Valdarno crags are represented in Leonardo da Vinci's paintings (for instance, The Monna Lisa and The Madonna of Rocks). In fact, Da Vinci knew this area well ("...of which you see the foot of Pratomagno remain so high) and he explained the geological origins very clearly. Above all, certain landscapes from the backgrounds of his pictures correspond sufficiently well to the shapes of the crags; and it is likewise for other masters of the Reanaissance, such as Masaccio and Beato Angelico.
